Discover the literacy practices that ensure students demonstrate more than a year's worth of growth for every year spent in school through these workshops developed by Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey.
Introductory Workshop
Surface Learning
Deep Learning
Transfer Learning
This workshop covers Visible Learning research; its connections to surface, deep, and transfer learning as it relates to literacy; the best literacy strategies to use in each stage of learning; and the tools for measuring your impact on student learning.
Surface learning isn’t superficial. A strong foundation of surface learning sets the stage for deeper learning. Participants will walk through different literacy approaches and participate in exercises that promote surface learning.
This workshop focuses on practical approaches for deep learning using Visible Learning research as a guide. Walk through different approaches and participate in the exercises that promote deeper learning.
Participants will explore the importance of transfer learning, the paths that transfer learning can take, and the conditions needed for transfer. This workshop will also review strategies for teaching students to organise and transform conceptual knowledge.
